CrossFit Girls: WODs named after girls
We are familiar with some of the trainings that are Hero WODs or tributes to the fallen military. Others WODs are named after girls, but what are these girls?
What are "the girls" of CrossFit?
Glassman, founder of the CrossFit brand, decided to name some WODs after women in the same way the U.S. weather service names storms.
The symbolism is because these workouts are tough and leave the athletes feeling as if a storm has passed over them.
In 2004 CrossFit Journal published the Girls of 2003: "Angie," "Barbara," "Chelsea," "Diane," "Elizabeth," and "Fran."
In the following months two more were added: "Grace" and "Helen."
"Annie" was added in 2005 and "Eva" in 2008.
In 2010, 6 new trainings were added to the official list: "Isabel," "Jackie," "Karen," "Linda," "Mary," and "Nancy."
