With a perfect temperature of 14°C in Albany, the first event of the CrossFit Games 2025 kicked off. Ideal conditions for a day that did not disappoint and left memorable performances from the first minute.

The race started with the men taking the lead. From the start, Jeffrey Adler and Ricky Garard set the pace, escorted by Roman Khrennikov and Colin Bosshard. Just 300 meters into the course, a familiar figure burst into the lead: Tia-Clair Toomeywho started in 56th position after a discreet Open, was already running neck and neck with the male leaders.

The Adler-Garard duo quickly pulled away from the rest, opening up a gap of about 30 meters as they ran in sync.

In the women's category, Aimee Cringle, Lucy Campbell and Haley Adams maintained a constant battle for the podium positions.

In the rowing area - which for the first time featured ROGUE machines in a CrossFit Games - Garard was the first to arrive, followed closely by Adler and Khrennikov, who accelerated not to lose contact. Among the women, Toomey was the first to get on the oar.with Cringle on his heels.

The tension mounted as Adler closed the gap on Roman. With just a few seconds to go, the Canadian overtook Khrennikov with authority and never looked back. Adler crossed the finish line aloneRoman was second and Garard third. Roman was second and Garard third.

In the women's category, Tia Clair Toomey wrote history again. Not only did she win with authority, but she confirmed that she is still the woman to beat. Her victory is even more impressive when you remember that she started from the last position.

It is a WOD of pacing and muscular endurance in the upper body.

The focus is on the HSPU with deficitthat have caused many time capsespecially in the women's heat 1.

Controversy by the difficulty of the movement in the context of several accumulated events.

It looks like a deliberate test of the "fittest on earth"not designed for everyone to finish.

In the first heat Christina Livaditakis 12:00.52 was the best. 4 athletes could not finish it.

In the second, Abbie Domit started strong but it was Australia's Grace Walton who ended up leading the event and won it 9:32.20, beating the previous best by almost 2 and a half minutes. Raptis was second 10:03.48 and Wells third 10:12.38. Hatie Kanyo was the only one who could not complete the wod.

In the final round, 7 of the 10 female participants came from outside the United States and Canada.

Cringle and Kerstetter were the first to reach the hspu deficit. Tia did the first set of 8 reps but then started doing sets of 4. She finished the 30 with a huge lead and came to the echo bike with 3 minutes to go to beat Grace Walton's time. She finally crossed the finish line 40 seconds faster than the previous mark. 8:51.66

44 events won by the Australian

"That deficit wasn't as deep as what I usually train with. I usually train with more of a deficit than the men do. That's how you get faster, cleaner reps. We train to be ready when we get to competition."

In addition, Tia talked about how she stays motivated:

"It's about surrounding yourself with people who tell you what you need to hear, not what you want to hear. I have an amazing team. I also do other sports, and while it's been interesting to try HYROX, I don't recommend spending the year doing another discipline and then preparing for the Gamess in just 4 weeks. I don't think I'd do it again."

England's Cringle was second with 10:08.00 and McGonigle, who trains with Toomey, was third with a time of 10:19.20.

1.- Tia-Clair Toomey - 8:51.66
2.- Grace Walton - 9:32.20
3.- Alexis Raptis - 10:03.48
4.- Aimee Cringle - 10:08.00
5.- Brooke Wells - 10:12.38

On the men's side, Zenoni was the best in the first heat 9:22.79.

🏋️ Format and news

CrossFit has introduced several changes in the classification process this season, eliminating the traditional regional face-to-face semifinals and opting for a hybrid system:

  • Online Semifinals (In-Affiliate Semifinals): athletes competed from their boxes under supervision.
  • Qualifying face-to-face events: such as the Mayhem Classic, Copa Sur, Wodland Fest, French Throwdown, TFX Invitational...
  • Last Chance Qualifier: scheduled for June, will be the last chance to earn a spot in the Games.

Another important new feature is that fans will be able to participate in some events The event is recreational, such as Event 1 ("Run. Row. Run."), which adds an unprecedented participatory dimension.
