How your performance is measured in HYROX

HYROX is an endurance competition consisting of eight kilometers of running, alternated by eight different types of exercises: ergometers, sleds and functional exercises.

In it, numbers are of enormous importance. One of its founding pillars is that all events are in a high percentage the same and therefore comparable with each other.

Another of its strengths, which it brings to the competitor, is the information contained in these classifications.

In them you can consult, from the moment you finish, to many details of your test or that of any competitor. They are accessible and, being open data, can be easily extracted. Several websites and apps provide a large amount of data and applications.

Between each kilometer and each exercise there is a zone called the Roxzone. In it you must run a part of the race, between the entrance to this roxzone (IN arc) and the entrance to the exercise zone. The other part is delimited between the exit of the exercise zone and the exit to the running circuit (OUT arc).

Competitors must wear an individual chip (they give it to you at check-in and you must return it at the end) that we place with a clamp around the ankle.

The start and finish line have chip readers that determine your total time. All the entrances and exits of each workout and each kilometer also have chip readers.

Structure of the partials

In addition to your total time you will find these partials:

  • Kilometer 1 (From exit to arc IN)
  • From Arc IN to SkiErg IN (Roxzone)
  • SkiErg
  • From SkiErg OUT to arc OUT (Roxzone)
  • Kilometer 2 (From OUT arc to IN arc)
  • From Arc IN to Sled Push IN (Roxzone)
  • Sled Push
  • From Sled Push OUT to arc OUT (Roxzone)
  • Kilometer 3 (From OUT arc to IN arc)
  • From Bow IN to Sled Pull IN (Roxzone)
  • Sled Pull
  • From Sled Pull OUT to arc OUT (Roxzone)
  • Kilometer 4 (From OUT arc to IN arc)
  • From arc IN to Burpees Broad Jump IN (Roxzone)
  • Broad Jump Burpees
  • From Burpees Broad Jump OUT to arc OUT (Roxzone)
  • Kilometer 5 (From OUT arc to IN arc)
  • From Bow IN to Row IN (Roxzone)
  • Row
  • From Row OUT to arc OUT (Roxzone)
  • Kilometer 6 (From OUT arc to IN arc)
  • From Bow IN to Farmer Carry IN (Roxzone)
  • Farmer Carry
  • From Farmer Carry OUT to arc OUT (Roxzone)
  • Kilometer 7 (From OUT arc to IN arc)
  • From Bow IN to Sandbag Lunges IN (Roxzone)
  • Sandbag Lunges
  • From Sandbag Lunges OUT to bow OUT (Roxzone)
  • Kilometer 8 (From arc OUT to arc IN Wall Balls)
  • Wall Balls

In the rankings you can initially consult the times for each kilometer, the times for each exercise and the sum of all the roxzone split times in a total time (varies between three and eight minutes).

Be clear that the first and last kilometers are not the same as the other six (from the 2nd to the 7th). The first one starts at the start tunnel and can be next to the IN arch or far away. This makes the kilometer depending on the event longer or shorter than the rest.

The last kilometer does not end at the IN arch of the roxzone but at the entrance to the wall balls. It is therefore always longer than the rest.

The total length of the roxzone varies per event. Sometimes it is only 500 meters (in very small roxzones) and in others it can exceed 1000 meters.

The important thing is that the sum of the eight kilometers and this roxzone route add up to 8.7 km. By varying the first kilometer and the roxzone, the kilometers usually do not measure 1000 meters. Sometimes they are somewhat shorter (with longer roxzones) and vice versa.

For this reason, it is not possible to make a comparison with total accuracy of the kilometers between different events. Much less with the first and the last.

What can be accurately compared is the sum of the eight kilometers plus the roxzone. In this image you can see these two partials.

partial results HYROX

The two times (total running time + roxzone time) add up to 40 min 10 sec.

This is the time you should compare between different events or with other competitors if you are looking for accuracy. Being 8.7 km the average partial of this competitor (myself in HYROX Valencia 2025) the average of race is 4:37 the thousand.

In addition, you should consider that the roxzone time is not all about running (or walking), as there is also the part where you pick up and drop off the kettlebell from the Farmer Carry and the sandbag from the lunges. Also if you stop for refreshments.

Workout times vary especially in the Sleds, as the coefficients of friction of the sleds with the carpet vary from one event to another. You will find quite appreciable differences from one competition to another.

How to access the rating from HYROX.com

The screenshot you have seen above is from the official HYROX website: www.hyrox.com. You can also access from the HYROX Spain website. www.hyrox.es o HYROX Mexico www.hyrox.mx.

To see all the data with the mobile without any problem you must place it in horizontal position. The screenshots below are from my phone.

In the web access the menu:

HYROX web results

And click on Rankings.

see hyrox rankings

From HYROX.com (or .es or .mx) sends you to another website: https://results.hyrox.com/season-8. In it you have several possibilities.

In the option that says More you have these options:

see results in HYROX
  • Elites: Where you can see how the rankings are going for the elite events: Majors, continental championships and world championships.
  • Current and Live: Where you can see the live split times of any competitor to follow their race. Don't overlook this point because it's one of the questions most people ask me on Instagram: “How do you know the live split times of the competitors?” Well, this is it.
  • Upcoming: Where you can see the lists of participants before the competition takes place.

In the sessions section you can choose any event from the first one in 2018 to the last one held.

HYROX season results

The nitty-gritty starts now. In the following image you can see different selection options.

filter results hyrox season
  • Race: the event within the selected season. If you want to go to one from other years you must first select its season.
  • Division: Not only the categories (weights, number of participants, gender) but the day you compete. In the section called “overall” are included the times of each category regardless of the day of the competition. The podium positions of each category and the slots for the world championship are obtained only in the Overall, but in many occasions this website does not provide the Overall classification (below I will tell you how to get it).
  • Last name (last name) and First name: You can search for any competitor who has participated.
  • Gender, age group and nationality: Filters by gender, age group and nationality.

Once you have chosen, filtered and found yourself (or have found the competitor you want to see the rankings for), just click on the name to see the results.

In the following image you can see the name, bib number (the first three or four digits are the starting time) and age group. Below, if you have had time penalty, and in the field Overall Time the total position within the category (Open Men in this example), the age group ranking and the total time.

How to interpret your HYROX results

If you continue to scroll down you will be presented with the default data of the Workout Summary (selectable on the blue arrow button). You can also select the Race Replay (red arrow).

hyrox race athlete information

Announced as the Workout Summary you can see three columns:

HYROX career summary data
  • The partial (Split), which is the kilometer or Workout number.
  • The time of this partial (Time).
  • The position of each partial (Place).

The total time of the roxzone is part of your race total, as I just told you. If you are interested in the different split times within it, you should click on the button Race Replay, The red arrow in the image I have shown you before.

There you will be able to get into the madness of joining the workout and kilometer partials, that of the different workout parts, as you can see in the image below:

HYROX stroke duration times
  • Rox IN indicates the time of the corresponding kilometer.
  • The workout time is indicated by the workout + Out.
  • The time it takes from entering the roxzone to entering the workout is indicated by the workout + In itself.
  • The time it takes from when you leave the workout area and exit the roxzone (through the OUT archway) is indicated by the row Rox Out.

In the screenshot you can't see the left column at all. It shows the part time.

How to compare yourself with other competitors on HYROX

The HYROX website does not offer the possibility to compare yourself, within it, with other athletes.

If you want to do this exercise you can do it in two ways:

  1. By opening two different windows with the two competitors' times and comparing them by eye.
  2. Do it on the web www.rox-coach.com.
  3. Do it in the Roxfit app.

In this video you have a tutorial with a lot of options to compare.

One of the great features of this comparison engine is that not only does it do it with an athlete of your choice, but it does it with the competitors who have the same times as you or with respect to the total average of the category where you have participated.

In addition, in the video you will find out what to do with the information you get from these comparisons.

The Roxfit app is also a good tool for making comparisons between different HYROX or between competitors.

You must download it from the Apple Store or Google Play. Once installed, you register and you can start searching for yourself (or any competitor) in the top section “Search for athlete or event”.

Once you have selected the competition, by default you will see your comparison with the average of all the competitors in your category in that particular event.

You can see it in the following image, where you will see in white your partial and in green or red the difference with the average.

If you want to go deeper, click on the button Compare Stats (marked with a red arrow).

Roxfit compare HYROX

Once you enter you can choose the option I mentioned above to compare yourself with the average (red arrow) or search for either another competitor or a competition of yours by clicking on Other Race (blue arrow in the following image).

comparison HYROX careers

Once you enter you must use the search engine (it is a bit of a hassle if you have a common last name or many competitions).

In the following image you can see my comparison of Valencia 2025 with Barcelona 2023 (you can see the callsign in the red oval).

how to compare 2 HYROX careers

As Barcelona was a competition in which I did almost three minutes less than in Valencia, most of the differences are in red because they are partial in which I took more time.

Remember that the 100% cannot be compared to the different partials, as not all competitions are the same.

  • Sleds carpets more or less hard.
  • Kilometer one is more or less short (depending on where the exit tunnel is).
  • More or less short kilometers (here there are few differences).
  • Roxzone more or less long.

Remember also that the sum of the eight kilometers + roxzone must be exact and comparable (8.7 km).

I encourage you to watch the video above for more information.
