The Wodapalooza festival expanded in 2024 to offer a second annual event in Huntington Beach, California, after several years solely in Miami.

The second edition arrives with important changes in the team members.

🔹 Women:

  • The first big surprise was to see Emma Tall (Team World) the market, while the Tia-Clair Toomeycaptain and reference of the world championship team, finished last in his heat. This raised doubts as to whether he was storing energy or if there was a physical problem.
  • Danielle Brandon, Olivia Kerstetter and Emma Lawson remained compact, securing good positions for North Americawhich gave them an advantage in the final tally.

🔹 Men:

  • Dallin Pepper and the champion of the Games 2025, Jayson Hopperdominated from the outset, setting a 1st and 2nd place that tipped the balance.
  • Roman Khrennikov and Ricky Garard pulled the Team World wagon, but it wasn't enough.
  • Curiosity: Pat Vellner slowed down at the end and gave up a key position to Jay Crouch.

Result: Team North America victorywhich opened the score 1-0.

🔹 Previous incidence: Alexis Raptis was withdrawn after the first event due to discomfort and Olivia Kerstetter had to go in as an emergency.

🔹 Women:

  • Emma Tall started very fast in the SkiErg, but was penalized for not doing well in the slalom.
  • Danielle Brandon was a real sniper: every shot was almost a sure hit, while Olivia had more trouble with accuracy.
  • The closing was for Tia-Clair Toomeywho showed mettle and effectiveness in securing the victory for Team World.

🔹 Men:

  • Epic duel between Jayson Hopper and Guilherme Malheiros. Both were fast in the SkiErg and solid in the handstand walks.
  • The key was in the shooting: Team World athletes (especially Gui and Crouch) were more consistent and got the final hits before North America.

Result: Team World takes the two points (women + men) and took the overall lead (1-2).

🔹 Here the specialists shone:

  • Gui Malheiros and showmanship, while Olivia Kerstetter did the same for North America.
  • In quick duels, Roman Khrennikov and Tia Toomey's husband showed their experience, setting very competitive times.
  • Although North America had some good attempts with Hopper and Kerstetter, the global consistency of Team World on all fronts was decisive.

Result: Team World wins Oly Show and moved to 1-3 in the overall standings.

Danielle Brandon 00:59 (North America) vs 🟪 Grace Walton (World)

  • Danielle came in with her explosive style and received 2 no reps right out of the gate, which allowed Walton to pull ahead.
  • Grace Walton was more methodical and consistentHe was careful with his technique to avoid mistakes, but his pace slowed down and Brandon was able to overtake him.
  • Result: Brandon prevailed, did 37 reps in 59 seconds (counting those that were invalidated) giving North America a point for consistency.

Pat Vellner 00:53 (North America) vs 🟪 Jay Crouch 00:58 (World)

  • Vellner started strong and looked like he could control the duel.
  • But Jay, who came with a lot of motivation after a great Games, kept up a good pace.
  • 👉 Victory for Vellnerproving that he can continue to compete against younger athletes.

⚡ Grace (30 Clean & Jerks)

Olivia Kerstetter 1:07 (North America) vs 🟪 Aimee Kringle (World)

  • Olivia came out with a aggressive pacewithout releasing the bar.
  • Aimee tried to keep up the cadence, but showed signs of fatigue early.
  • The power of Olivia, who comes from being a top weightlifter in CrossFit, was too much: finished several seconds aheadsecuring a key partial point for North America.

Jayson Hopper 1:04 (North America) vs 🟪 Roman Khrennikov (World)

  • Hopper, champion of the Games, started very strong: he opened a gap in the first 10 reps.
  • Roman, true to his style, started off more controlled but in the second half tightened and narrowed the gap.
  • However, Hopper did not give in: he closed the last 5 clean & jerks without releasing the bar, sealing the victory in the duel.
  • 👉 One of the most vibrant clashes of the day, with Hopper showing he is at his best.

Result: Team North America wins the duels and moved 2 - 3 in the overall standings.

He was the one who opened the second day of competition.

Four athletes per team participated, each doing a different segment.

North America led for most of the race, but in the final stretch of the race Ricky Garard (World) came from behind to beat Jason Hopper in the 4,000 m run.

Garard started out some 12 seconds behind and ended up crossing the finish line alone, giving the victory to Team World.

Points: 2 for World and 1 for North America.

Vellner had anticipated that it would be a "pure fitness" test and they did not fail: they were the first to complete the course within the time cap, earning 2 points. World could not match the pace, although they scored 1 point for finishing.

The duel was divided into two rounds:

  • Women: World, led by Gracie Walton, Emma Tall and Amy Kringle, came out fast and held the lead until the end. Tia Toomey's motivational speech before competing showed in the team's intensity.
  • Men: North America responded with an impeccable performance by Medeiros, Hopper and Vellner, who strategically rotated the charges and closed with a clear advantage over Roman Khrennikov, Jay Crouch and Ricky Garard.
    Both teams went into the time cap and scored extra points.

Great expectation to see who would take on this test of suffering. On the World side there were last minute changes: Roman was replaced by Gui Malheiros, while Aimee Cringle doubled her effort after competing in the previous one.

  • Emma Lawson managed to recover key seconds in front of Cringle in the middle and gave his team the lead.
  • Dallin Pepper showed again why he is called "the king of the Echo Bike": he destroyed Malheiros in the closing stages and secured the victory for North America.

It was divided into three separately scored parts, which gave room for twists in the scoring. However, North America did not let any of them slip away:

  • Part A: They started with maximum synchrony and set the tone from the first minute.
  • Part B: managed their rotations better, while World accumulated mistakes and small mismatches that cost them seconds.
  • Part C: was a solid closing performance by the entire North American block, which completed the job with authority.
    The atmosphere was tense, with Toomey cheering his team on from the sidelines, but it wasn't enough to stop the momentum of a very connected North America.
    📊 Final score: 14 - 11 for North America.

Alex Gazán is still recovering after her car accident and will be replaced by Olivia Kerstetter who was third in the last CrossFit Games.

What is the TYR CUP?

The TYR Cup is a 3-day competition. Teams are made up of 8 athletes, 4 men and 4 women.

It's a head-to-head of just 2 teams: North America versus the rest of the World.

How are athletes selected?

The only way to participate is by receiving an invitation from the organization. These will be sent according to the position in the CrossFit Games ranking.

Teams will be composed of 8 athletes, 4 men and 4 women.

World Selection: Athletes born outside of Canada, the United States or Mexico.
North American selection: Athletes born in Canada, USA or Mexico.

TYR WZA will invite 3 men and 3 women from each team. Each team will have a captain and a female captain. Once the captains are decided, they must choose the remaining male and female to complete the team.

Workouts

There will be a total of 11 events all of them with one of the following 6 formats:

Individual: The 16 athletes compete independently and the sum of the result of all athletes will be the final score of each team. The winning team will score 1 point.

All HandsThe athletes of each team will compete together. The winning team will score 1 point.

Spotlight: Teams select one male and one female depending on the skill to be tested, either strength, gymnastic or monostructural. The winning team will score 1 point.

Miami TeamEach team will make a group of 3 men and a group of 3 women, 2 athletes rest. The male winning team will score 1 point and the female 1 point.

CrossFit Games Team: Each team will make 2 groups of 2 men and 2 women. The first group will do one event and the next group will do another event. The best score will add 1 point to the team.

Captains: The 2 captains of each team will face each other in a head-to-head match to score 2 points for the team.
